An Introductory Meeting on the General Development Plan of Ulaanbaatar City up to the Year 2040

A morning meeting was organized to exchange views on the revision and approval of the General Development Plan of Ulaanbaatar City through 2040. The meeting was attended by 16 representatives from member organizations of the Mongolian Information and Communication Operators’ Association (MICOA). Ms. H. Ninjbolor, Director of the Telecommunications Network and Infrastructure Regulation Department of the Communications Regulatory Commission (CRC); Ms. B. Oyuntuya, Head of the Infrastructure Division of the Urban Development and Standards Department; and specialist Ms. I. Myagmarsuren were also present to provide information on the new planning for Ulaanbaatar City's telecommunications infrastructure and urban development.

Ms. B. Oyuntuya, Head of the Infrastructure Division, stated that by 2040, several major infrastructure projects are planned in the telecommunications sector. These include expanding the fiber-optic network from the current 607 km to 837 km, constructing 161 km of conduit systems, and establishing new international data centers in Shine Zuunmod and Baganuur, as well as developing a backup transmission facility and a high-tech park. However, as of now, neither detailed nor partial plans have been finalized. Consultative meetings are currently being held with key infrastructure sectors, including energy, road, heating, and telecommunications, to introduce and coordinate these developments.

As a result of the meeting, it was agreed that proposals would be consolidated and submitted to clearly define the spatial allocation, planning standards, and specifications for the placement of mobile communication towers and base stations within the framework of the Ulaanbaatar 2040 Development Plan.
